Dressmaking fabric is either knitted or woven and can be constructed from natural and animal fibres, such as cotton, silk, flax, wool or hemp; or synthetic fibres, such as nylon, polyester or acrylic. How the fabric itself is made depends on its composition and weave, so every fabric is different. We carry clothing fabrics in all different types of weaves, including plain, satin, twill, as well as less common weaves like herringbone, sateen, and crepe.
As for printed dressmaking fabrics, the way we print the fabric depends primarily on the composition of the fabric. We use sublimation, reactive, and pigment printing to reproduce your design. Each of these methods uses eco-friendly inks that attach to the fabric to yield high-contrast, long-lasting results. You'll be able to wear and wash your fabric without losing the bright colours and sharp details of your illustrations.
We do all of the printing at our production house in London. Everything from the treatment of the fabric to the printing, quality checking, and packaging is done under one roof. This enables us to be as efficient as possible, meaning you get your fabric as quickly as we can make it. Most fabrics are ready to be dispatched within 1-2 days and can be with you as soon as the next day.
To make printed dressmaking fabric, all you have to do is select a fabric and upload your design to our design tool. You can specify your custom dimensions so that you can order the exact amount of fabric you need. You'll also have options for hemming, or we can simply cut the fabric around your design so that you're ready to start crafting.
