Care instructions
Always test an offcut or sample prior to working the leather with tools, adhesives or heat. To ensure the leather print on your product is as durable as possible, we’ve worked hard refining our printing process and craftsmanship. Repeated turning or working may affect the digital print, always test your processes on a sample first. As leather is a natural material you may notice small differences in surface and texture, as well as wrinkles, which is common to products made from natural leather. All leathers age naturally according to the usage, and this can cause the print to wrinkle or fade slightly over time. It is possible the base colour may show through the leather as it ages with wear. When not in use we recommend storing your product in a protective dust bag or box to keep your product looking its best. Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat, sunlight, water, and chemical cleaners to maintain a bright and long-lasting print. Avoid contact with light coloured fabrics or upholstery as the colour may transfer. Whilst a light rain shower is unlikely to harm, we recommend protecting from rain. Should your product get wet, allow to dry naturally away from direct heat. To clean surface wipe only with a damp lint free cotton cloth.

About Your Leather Rucksack
This isn't your typical rucksack. The Colville backpack is a big step up from the polyester backpacks of your school years. Made from leather with a faux suede interior, this backpack will look sophisticated no matter where you're going. The back panel as well as the inside of the straps are made from an aerated mesh material that is cushioned and breathable, making it comfortable when you're lugging around your laptop, books, sketches, and personal belongings. You'll be able to fit quite a bit inside, as the backpack measures 27cm W x 39cm H x 18cm D with straps that are adjustable from 62cm to 89cm. When you design your own rucksack, your art will cover the entire front panel. We'll print your design onto the bubble textured Nappa, using richly pigmented eco-friendly inks that will make your design as durable as the leather itself. The sides, base, and outside of the straps are fashioned from black bubble textured leather, while the zip pulls, decorative tabs, handle, and strap attachments will be made from smooth black leather. On the inside, your custom leather backpack is lined with black faux suede fabric and has two pockets, one of which can be zipped. To make this backpack your own, choose a finish for the hardware and stitching colour. The Colville is complete with studs on the base to protect the leather from scuffs, and two zips for easy opening.

How Your Custom Leather Backpack is Made
Our Colville backpack is completely made to order by the hands of our professionals. We print your design onto the bubble leather, which will become the front panel of your backpack. Then each of the individual leather parts is cut to size just before everything is stitched together. The black faux suede lining is added inside, along with two pockets. The mesh bits such as the back of the bag and the back of the straps, as well as all the smaller leather details, are securely sewn with the stitching colour of your choice. Once everything is in place, your custom leather backpack is quality checked prior to packaging and delivery.
Design Tips
Using our easy creative tool, you can design your own rucksack in just a few minutes. Use your existing art or create an entirely new piece to make this backpack stand out. Then make your selections for the hardware finish and the stitching colour. You can see how all of these details will look together with our 3D preview, which you can view at any time during your design process. Keep in mind that everything other than the front panel will be black, so feel free to use a design that will coordinate well with this.

Print Guideline
-
What's the best resolution to print in?
We print at 200dpi, which is a good combination of quality and file weight. Ideally, your image should be scaled to 100% at 200dpi, this means that no resizing of your file occurs stopping any interpolation.
-
Should I save my file as a TIFF or JPEG?
For multi-coloured or very detailed files we recommend using a tiff format, but they must be flattened. For simple colours and low detail files, a jpeg is fine.
-
Which colour model should I choose? RGB or CMYK?
We advise providing images in the RGB colour space. Specifically using the sRGB image profile, to achieve best colour results. What does this mean? In your editing software choose RGB as the working space, and assign the image profile as sRGB (full name sRGB IEC61966-2.1)
-
What does GSM mean?
Grams per Square Meter (GSM) is an international standard for measuring the weight of paper or fabric. GSM uses the weight of a square meter (1000 x 1000mm) as an indication of the weight and thickness of a given fabric. We class 20-100gsm as light (summer fabrics, gauzes and fine silks), 101-249 gsm as medium (most clothing fabrics) and 250+ gsm as heavy (upholstery fabrics, and other specialist fabrics).
-
What are the bleed areas?
When designing your product, it’s best to make sure that your image is slightly larger than needed. In printing, the extra printed image is referred to as a “Bleed Area” or margin, and it is removed from the finished piece. A bleed area acts as a buffer for slight inconsistencies in the manufacturing process. however, it’s important to fill your bleed areas completely, or you may end up with white, unprinted strips along the edge of your finished product.
-
Do you print on garments a customer supplies?
Unfortunately not. All our garments are printed on flat fabric and sewn into finished products, which gives a better, finished result and all-over print. We test meticulously so that we know what gets the best results on our fabrics, and our facilities cater perfectly to them. We do however print sublimation paper to order, so if you have access to a heat press you can press your fabrics or flat garments easily.
-
Can you Align a Pattern or design across panels of a garment?
We always strive for the greatest accuracy when printing and constructing your garments. However, due to unavoidable stretch or movement of the fabric during the stitching process, we cannot guarantee perfect pattern registration across garment seams. We are generally accurate within 2-3mm, which Is close enough for most patterns but may show slight issues with detailed geometric patterns.
-
Can I print my own Labels?
Most of our garments now come with printable label space for you to add your own company information and branding! If you would like to sew in your own labels, we also offer Printed Fabric Labels here.
-
How is your fabric printing eco-friendly?
With environmental consciousness in mind, our fabrics are all printed using completely water-based inks. This means no chemicals or solvents are used. Our heat fixing procedure fixes the colours and prints, avoiding the downsides of steaming, such as excess or contaminated water returning into the waste system. We have one facility in London where we conduct all the printing, production and fulfillment.
What materials are used?
The materials we use to make your custom leather backpack are Nappa leather, faux suede, webbing, and mesh. The exterior of the back is made from bubble textured leather with smooth leather accents. The back of the bag and the inside of the straps are made from a cushioned aerated mesh material. We use a bit of black webbing on part of the top strap and the adjustable part of the shoulder straps. The inside of the backpack is lined with faux suede.
How much can I adjust the straps?
The shoulder straps on the Colville are adjustable from 62cm to 89cm, giving you plenty of leeway to make sure the backpack is comfortable to wear.
What's inside?
The inside of the backpack has a main roomy compartment where most of your stuff will go. There's also a zipped pocket on the back wall, and an open pocket on the front wall. These pockets are a perfect place for little items such as keys or a wallet.
